This single-shot sitcom is adapted from the memoir "Fresh Off the Boat" by Eddie Huang, a Chinese-American chef. It primarily tells the story of a Taiwanese family from the 1990s who moves to Orlando to settle. Huangs parents are both Taiwanese immigrants, and he has always loved everything about America, especially hip-hop music. While his father easily assimilates into the local society, his mother often feels perplexed by white culture. His father runs a chain of American-style steakhouse restaurants, and together with the whole family, they have dreams of achieving the "American Dream." At the same time, they strive to maintain their own cultural identity and ensure the integrity of their family. The title "Fresh Off the Boat" is a colloquialism that usually refers to the new generation of immigrants who come to America in pursuit of the "American Dream."
